Research interest

My current research focuses on the development of a novel preclinical Positron Emission Tomography (PET) approach based on metabolic engineering enabled click chemistry of radiotracers to allow for real-time imaging of gut microbiome modulation. The gut microbiome is vital to host nutrient assimilation and immune response, with gut dysbiosis associated with a wide range of disease states. However the only imaging techniques currently available for microbiome investigations are limited to in vitro/ex vivo applications or have a shallow imaging depth/specificity and lack of quantitativeness. I aim to remedy this by enabling a metabolic oligosaccharide engineering with bioorthologonal click chemistry reaction in vivo in the intestine specifically for PET imaging of microbiome modulation strategies.
