Research interest

My research focus is the implementation and use of advanced analytical techniques into preclinical research and clinical application. Hereby I have specialized in chromatography, mass spectrometry and NMR spectroscopy and the use of metabolomics and lipidomics for systems biology and personalized medicine. My expertise covers the complete workflow from sample preparation to data acquisition until statistical evaluation. The methodology of my lab ranges from ex-vivo tissue, feces/stool and cell culture investigations under application of two-phase extraction SOPs for polar and lipid metabolites until IVDr-based measurements of biofluids such as serum, urine and CSF. For human samples, the commercial Bruker IVDr methods (“B.I. methods”) are routinely applied within a wide range of clinical research fields such as cancer, neurology, immunology, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Personal research interests are neurodegenerative disorders, microbiome metabolomics/lipidomics and quantitative precision diagnostics.
