Research interest

My research interest focuses on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Acquiring non-invasive images with a submilimeter resolution in vivo offers great options and possibilities in research. My main field is imaging of the abdomen of mice, with a special focus on cancer detection and monitoring of tumor growth and / or therapy response, using high resolution images for lesion detection and localized MR spectroscopy for disease characterization. To me, early detection of tumors and imaging of therapy response are the most interesting challenges in oncology, as many tumors become as lethal as they are due to a late diagnosis. Early information about lesion size and number or of the success or failure of a therapy is of major importance as it allows fast therapeutical interaction (e.g. different or additional therapies, surgery, ...). In my studies, I evaluated several tissue specific MRI detectable parameters (e.g. relaxation rates, diffusion, ...) in different cancer models such as liver cancer, melanoma cancer and endogenous models of pancreatic and breast cancer.
